My name is Mike Brugh and I was recently named the new Athletic Director for Hyde Park.
Hyde Park is more than just a school. It is a community of parents, volunteers, teachers and administrators who are genuinely invested in the overall well being and future of our children. We have all invested our time, energy and money into developing a top notch academic program complete with amazing extracurricular clubs and activities. It is time to put that same amount of energy and passion into our athletic program!
Athletics is powerful and transcendent. It can bridge gaps and bring people with relatively nothing in common, together. It offers those who participate new opportunities, encourages school pride, endorses the school image in the community, and motivates students. But perhaps most importantly it helps to develop essential life skills; effort, hard work, self-discipline, and teamwork.
And so over the next several months I will work with the existing sports coordinators, the administration and PTO to establish the vision and plan for our growing athletic program. As of today, I can say that vision will include starting an Athletic Booster Club, recruiting a board, establishing bylaws and creating a 501(3)c to stand alone as an independent, nonprofit organization. This will require a lot of hard work and will present an opportunity for additional volunteers. I use that word intentionally; opportunity! We have an opportunity to impact our children’s lives and leave behind a legacy that will serve HPS for years to come.
For now, I simply wanted to introduce myself and publicly thank all those who have already done so much to establish our existing athletic program. Without you and the foundation you’ve built, none of this would be possible. THANK YOU!
If you are interested in exploring volunteer opportunities associated with our athletic program, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
It’s going to be an exciting year for HPS Athletics!
